Everyone loves summer time. From getting a break from school to taking a vacation with loved ones, what’s not to like? One of my favorite aspects of summer is definitely going to see all of the big summer blockbusters. The summer is the time for the movie industry to release the movies that they think will bring in the big bucks; it has become almost a competition between organizations.
So what movies do we have in store for us this year? First off is (and possibly my favorite) Sex and the City 2! This movie will definitely be a success. I don’t know one girl who is not going to see this movie with their friends. Teens everywhere are looking forward to Eclipse, the third movie in the Twilight saga. Don’t worry men… there are movies for you too! Robin Hood will be released in early May as well as the A-Team.
So this summer grab your popcorn and some friends and enjoy the movie!

AT&T takes on social media
Well it seems there is a new social media site in town. Mashable announced today that AT&T has launched its site Buzz.com as a competitor in the social media race. This site has been compared to Yelp as well as Yellowpages.com.
Although I am happy for AT&T for finally getting Buzz.com off the ground, I don’t really believe that it is anything new or original. Both Yahoo and Google have already released sites that are very similar to this site. Did AT&T wait too long? Only time will tell.

As the spring semester is quickly coming to an end, the final touches are being made on our PR final presentation. This has by far been the smoothest group project I have ever been a part of while in college. Great clients and awesome teammates, what more could a girl want?
I am especially excited about this project because I know that I have learned skills that will be highly valuable when I enter the workforce. The research and brainstorming elements of this project are like those that entry-level professionals partake in at work. I know that I will be ahead of the game this summer when I intern in New York!

The importance of blogging
All semester I have blogged twice a week for my PR class. I am not going to lie; the first few weeks I did not understand why my lecturers forced us to produce two blogs a week. However I now understand how important blogging has become to society, especially PR professionals.
In my PR classes I have learned a new style of writing. Before college I was used to writing with tones of voice and creativity. Now, however, I have been taught to write press releases and media advisories in a certain way with minimal voice. Blogging has allowed me to express myself and continue to maintain my voice and imagination.

When I think Apple has hit its peak, they announce the launch of a new product. First it was the introduction of the iPhone then the iPad, and now the Apple Game Center. Mashable compares the Apple Game Center to both the Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. At first I was a little concerned that Apple was coming out with a product that has already been created by other companies. However, I soon found that this would be the first time ever that this type of technology could be used on mobile phones.
Leave it up to Apple to one-up its competitors. This product will be available on iPhones, iPods and even on the new iPad. Now guys everywhere will be able to play their games not only at home, but at school, work, and anywhere else they can imagine!

Most can agree that Oprah Winfrey is one of the most famous people in the world. Everything she touches seems to turn to gold. So what’s next for the unstoppable Ms. Winfrey? Her own television channel, that’s what! According to an article in the New York Times, Winfrey has announced that she will unleash her channel in the beginning of 2011. On the channel she will have her own evening show appropriately named “Oprah’s Next Chapter.”
Oprah will also be joined by best friend Gayle King as well as Shania Twain who will also have their own television shows. I am not going to lie… I will probably be a regular viewer of OWN. Oprah may be over the top at times, but let’s face it, her show is always interesting and she has amazing guests. Who knows when the next “Tom Cruise jumping on the couch” incident will happen again!

A New York State of Mind
As summer quickly approaches, I am getting ready to embark on a new venture in the Big Apple. I have recently accepted an amazing internship at a New York firm and couldn’t be happier. Although spending the summer in my favorite city is a big plus, the main reason I am going to New York is to learn a new aspect of PR and to strengthen my skills.
I have learned so much from my last internships and am excited to grow even more as an intern. From contacting New York media to brainstorming with talented PR professionals, there is so much I have yet to learn. Like most PR students I am still debating about the type of PR I would like to pursue after graduation. Hopefully this summer will not only make me a well-rounded intern, but also help narrow down the infinite directions I can possible go. Only time will tell…

Although it may be offseason for the Yankees team and coaches, there is one new member of the Yankees family that hasn’t had much of a break. The Yankees’ World Series Trophy has traveled around the globe, during the off-season, to visit some exciting fans. From the Dominican Republic to Tokyo, the trophy has visited some of the world’s biggest Yankees’ fans for once in a lifetime photo ops.
The tour began in early January and is continuing until June 19 at a stop in Staten Island. According to a recent article in the New York Times fans have waited up to two-hours to take a picture with the championship trophy…in the cold. That is dedication! I may stand outside for two-hours to take a picture with Derek Jeter, but a trophy… I don’t think so!

It seems like everywhere you turn there is one topic in the tip of everyone’s tongue… and I am not talking about whether or not Sandra Bullock is planning to stay with Jesse James. The Healthcare Reform bill has stirred up controversy ever since President Obama was elected and has only increased the conversation in recent days. From newspapers to television and even social media, it seems like everyone has a strong opinion regarding the recent passing of the bill.
Although people seem to have strong feeling about Healthcare Reform, they don’t seem to know much about what the bill actually entails. I have found through reading blogs and Facebook statuses that when individuals bash or support the bill they speak more about their feelings towards the involved political parties rather than the bill itself. I feel that most people are forming their opinions based on what political party they support instead of researching the bill itself.
The overwhelming amount of uneducated press the bill has received has made it difficult for people to understand the details of the bill and how it will affect their lives. I think in this case the media is working against the bill. Until people start receiving facts rather than other people’s opinions, individuals will continue to deliver wrong information on their social media sites.

According to Mashable’s article “Wikipedia Goes Down”, the popular Web site’s encyclopedias are not working, even the English encyclopedia. Wikipedia has become the “go to” Web site for people in need of quick information. The element that separates Wikipedia from other encyclopedias is that users are the ones that control the entries. This typically means that the entries only include important information and are easy to read.
Wikipedia is an extremely popular site. The fact that it isn’t working popularly can put a damper on many users day. Instead of visiting one site to receive all of their information needs, people will have to visit search engines and sift through endless Web sites. So far Mashable does not have any leads about why the site is inactive, but reportedly some people can access the site, where as others aren’t so lucky.
